Bournemouth Tournament

Sunday 17th June 2007

We travelled down to Bournemouth on the Saturday and most the girls spent the day either swimming or shopping. In the evening, together with the year 7’s and all the parents we enjoyed a lovely meal in the hotel restaurant.

On Sunday morning it was down to business and as usual the Year 8’s did not disappoint. Despite playing in the Under 14 age group where most players were a year older than us the team played extremely well. We only had 7 players so could not afford any injuries.

Our first game against Bournemouth Pink got off to a shaky start and we were 4 goals to 1 down at half time. However we re-grouped got our act together and managed a 7 all draw. From then on it was all uphill – the girls won the rest of their matches. They needed to win their final match of the day against Poole Rubies in order to win the tournament. Despite a valiant effort it was not to be and we eventually finished 3rd on the day – an excellent achievement.

I would like to thank Rebecca Hazell for being team captain for the tournament and leading by example. All of the girls gave 100%. A solid shooting combination of Kat Williams and Georgia Das worked well with a versatile centre court of Anna Wacey, Hannah Hogan and Emma Baughurst finished off with the solid defence of Rebecca Hazell and Emma Aylett.

Well done girls. Both on and off the court your behaviour was exemplary. Now let’s look forward to next year and, if you keep training and working hard, the trophy is yours for the taking.

Tegate Tournament

A great day of netball was enjoyed by Crosskeys U13 netball squad. After nearly giving me a near fatal heart attack with only 6 of the squad turning up and then Lizzi running onto court to make the 7th player, we managed a win against Notts City. Well done girls for pulling together in times of need.
